I’M SO HONORED TO BE THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF MAD AXE MEDIA! I AM STILL FREELANCING, SO PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS PAGE, AND DON’T HESITATE TO REACH OUT WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS!

EDITING PRICES ARE CHANGING!! PLEASE SEE MY INSTAGRAM PAGE WHILE THIS GETS UPDATED!

RATES:

UP TO 7,400 WORDS . . . $300

7,500 TO 15,000 WORDS . . . $550

15,001 TO 45,000 . . . $650

45,001 TO 85,000 . . . $775

85,001 TO 100,000 . . . $900

I offer two main types of editing.

DEVELOPMENTAL:

This is an in-depth editing of the manuscript that looks at big picture items such as theme development, character arcs, plot development and redundancies, overall flow and tone, believability, any holes in the plot, and overall manuscript structure.

LINE AND PROOFREADING EDITS:

This focuses on spelling, grammar, punctuation, word choice, passive and active voice concerns, and overall polish of the manuscript.

Writers may request line/proofreading, development edits, or both. Prices are flat rate, so whether one type of editing is desired or all, the price is the same.

HOW ARE EDITS GIVEN?

All edits will be given in Track Changes of a Microsoft Word document.

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT AND DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

I have payment plans available, so I totally understand if that is a desired path to take! E-mail me (nicobellfiction@gmail.com) and we’ll come up with an affordable schedule of payment. A deposit (to be discussed) will still need to be made up front.

For those not seeking a payment plan, I require a 50% deposit. The rest of payment is required at the return of the first drafts. Please note even if you decide not to do the second round of edits, THE REST OF THE PAYMENT IS STILL DUE. All final payments will be due one month after the first round of edits are given (please note other payment plans are available if needed :) ).

For example:

If a writer submits on January 1st, they will pay the 50% deposit at that time. If, for instance, I return the first round of edits on February 1st, the rest of the payment is due within one month (March 1st).

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I RESUBMIT MY WORK?

Here’s how it works:

The writer submits their manuscript. I provide the first round of edits in a timely manner. The writer has a chance to go over them and make changes. They can resubmit for a second round. This is a great way to fine tune any edits and put the finishing touches on the work.

After that is complete, the editing service is finished, but please note that I’m always around and happy to address any issues. My job is to help your work shine, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if a question comes up later!

If the writer decides not to with the second round, final payment is still due.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET THE EDITS?

Edits will be returned to the writer in a timely fashion. We’ll work together to make sure your time table is met! I typically can edit 80,000 words in a week depending on case load.

DO YOU EDIT THE FIRST PAGE FOR FREE AS A TEST TO SEE IF YOU’RE A GOOD FIT?

Yes! As a tip, every editor should do this, so whether or not you decide to go with me, please make sure to work with an editor who offers this service!

Depending on how long the manuscript is, I offer a free edit of 500—1,000 words. For example, if your manuscript is 100,000 words, I’ll edit 1000 words for free. If it’s only 25,000 words, a 500 word sample will work! This is designed so you see my style and can make a decision if I’m the best editor for your needs.

WHAT TYPE OF EDITOR WOULD AM I? HOW WOULD I DESCRIBE MY STYLE?

I describe myself as confident and uplifting. As a writer, I know what it’s like to pour your heart onto a page and then pass that to a stranger for critique. It takes some courage, so I’m always honored to be given that trust. I give you the tools and skills necessary to write a clean and technically grammatically correct novel, and then we work together to decide if that rigidness enhances your work. If it doesn’t, we figure out the best ways to break those rules without sacrificing your vision or the readability of your work. We also work on character and plot development, increasing the stakes of the story, internal and external struggles of the character, and much more!

Most importantly, I have no desire to crush souls. I want you to hire me so that one day you can fire me! Passing on the skills for story writing is my main objective WITHOUT changing your voice. It’s all about your vision and getting it into the hands of readers!
