EDITING SERVICES

FLAT RATES: $250 FOR UP TO 45,000 WORDS / $350 FOR 45,001 - 80,000 / $450 80,001 - 150,000

Types of Edits:

I offer two main types of editing.

DEVELOPMENTAL:

This is an in-depth editing of the manuscript that looks at big picture items such as theme development, character arcs, plot development and redundancies, overall flow and tone, believability, any holes in the plot, and overall manuscript structure.

LINE AND PROOFREADING EDITS:

This focuses on spelling, grammar, punctuation, word choice, passive and active voice concerns, and overall polish of the manuscript.

Writers may request line/proofreading, development edits, or both.

HOW ARE EDITS GIVEN?

All edits will be given in Track Changes of the Microsoft Word document.

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?

Yes, I require a 50% deposit. The rest of payment is required at the completion of the final edits.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I RESUBMIT MY WORK?

Here’s how it works:

The writer submits their manuscript. I provide the first round of edits in a timely manner. The writer has a chance to go over them and make changes. They can resubmit for a second round which can be used to clarify comments, go over the edits in more detail, and ask any questions. After that is complete, the editing service is finished, but please note that I’m always around and happy to address any issues. My job is to help your work shine, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if a question comes up later! Final payment is due after the second edit as this is the end of the service. If the writer doesn’t want to continue with the second round, final payment is due upon receiving the manuscript after the first edits.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET THE EDITS?

Edits will be returned to the writer in a timely fashion. We’ll work together to make sure your time table is met! I typically can edit 80,000 words in a week depending on case load.

DO YOU EDIT THE FIRST PAGE FOR FREE AS A TEST TO SEE IF YOU’RE A GOOD FIT?

Yes, depending on how long the manuscript is I offer a free edit of 500 - 1000 words. For example, if your manuscript is 100,000 words, I’ll edit 1000 words. If it’s only 25,000 words, a 500 word sample will work!

WHAT ARE YOUR CREDINTIALS?

First, I absolutely LOVE working with writers and helping to polish their work. I take my responsibility as an editor seriously. I know what it’s like to pour your heart out onto a page and then pass that to a stranger for critique! It takes some courage, so I’m always honored to be given that trust. I provide constructive technical feedback, but I understand that the rules are made to be broken. I give you the tools and skills necessary to write a clean and technically grammatically correct novel, and then we work together to decide if that rigidness enhances your work. If it doesn’t, we figure out the best ways to break those rules without sacrificing your vision or the readability of your work. It’s all about your vision and getting it into the hands of readers!

I graduated with MFA in Writing from Lindenwood University (2021). Prior to that, I’ve found success as a published author, book reviewer, and an anthology editor. To see a complete list of my writing qualifications, head over to the Publication page.
